There are numerous software packages available for designing printed circuit boards (PCBs), too many in fact. That being said, there are three PCB design packages that are the most popular: Altium, Eagle, and OrCad. However, I prefer a less well-known PCB design packaged called DipTrace.

'Nothing is free', 'There ain't no such thing as a free lunch', 'There is no such thing as free unless the thing in question is without value'. We've all heard this before but maybe, just maybe, the old maxim is challenged by some software. Cadsoft Eagle, DipTrace and Uncle Tom Cobley all do 'free' or 'lite' so as to get you hooked and, they hope, have you come back and buy.
